Critturs from our first safari. We stayed at two camps: Saruni at Samburu for 3 nights, and Governors Il Moran in the Maasai Mara for 4. I took along some new and hefty camera gear to play with: EF100-400L 4.5-5.6 IS USM, EF70-200L 2.8 IS II USM, Gitzo GT2541. The lenses mounted on my 400D and 5D respectively, this gave an effective range of 70-640mm. It was not enough! Notice the mm-mm lizard. The kestrel chowed down its head before discarding the rest of the carcass.
This big fella is busy guarding the Mara crossing - the shallow part of the Mara river that figures in most documentaries of the wildebeest migration. We did not see any crossings, although the couple we were sharing a jeep with saw 3 zebra crossing on the following day.
There were quite a few lioncubs playing around their mothers, the two sisters. Very cute.
Notice the little coot on the right doing a runner to avoid drowning as one of the hippos has a roll and a stretch.
