lake toba

  • Steve and I had rented mopeds again and worked our way far into the hills on the mainland to experience these amazing vistas.
  • Looking back over Lake Toba from a viewing tower. Although hidden in the mist in this picture, it is possible from this point to see all the way across the island to the other side of the lake.
  • Local wildlife.
  • This was as good as the roads got, but we had some great fun.
  • We tried a few different types of local booze...
  • Just after this picture, the lizard leapt from this wall about two metres to the ground and legged it up a tree.
  • An historic village that we stopped off at on the way back to Medan.
  • It wasn't a real cow's head!
  • Peek-a-boo!
  • Notice the toucan.
  • This decorated wall stands at the entrance to the village.
  • A tunnel leads in to the main part of the village, and this fellow is hiding in the shadows half way through - very easy to miss in the darkness, though as the eyes adjust he can give a bit of a shock.
  • The whole area is encompassed in beautiful scenery.
  • It is possible to walk all the way down to the base of the waterfall, but we were on a time limit.
  • Doggies going to market (probably best not to imagine what for...).
