Sydney

30 May 2007
Michelle and I took advantage of the bank holiday to visit Sydney and the Hunter Valley for five days. It definitely wasn't long enough!

This was the lovely Holden Statesman that took us on our short excursion. It was quite a powerful little beast, as Michelle's fingernail marks on the dashboard will testify.

• Taking the scenic route to Hunter Valley, we stopped and played with the horses. Look at this guy's maniacal eye. Seconds after this shot he was leaping in the air and started trying to kick me through the fence. That's why they call me Dolittle Sarich...

• Follow the "yellow brick road" from Wollombi.
• A small cheese taster and a "little" wine for our first stop. Yes, the amount of food took us by surprise!
• From our balcony, overlooking the grounds of the Peppers Convent.
• Pre-dinner drinks and canapes. I say!
• Peppers Convent at night.
• Peppers Convent by day.
• En-route back to Sydney, we stopped off at Caves Beach to finish off the wine and the cheese platter, and had the beach all to ourselves. This is the life.
• Michelle looking as gorgeous as ever.
• The other direction from our rocky outpost. Idyllic (until we started to feed the seagulls, then it got a little noisy).
• Looking back on Sydney from Watson's Bay.
• The Hornby Lighthouse at South Head, a short walk from Watson's Bay.
• A novel form of fishing. This fellow was reaching into the rock crevices and pulling the fish out using only his workman's gloves.
• I was lucky to get a table at the famous Doyles on the Beach, calling just one day in advance, and we were even luckier that, after asking us if we would like a table with a view, the lady assigned us the prime table in the 400-seating establishment!
